James M. Burton is Of Counsel and practices in the areas of insurance casualty and property litigation, insurance coverage, subrogation and workers’ compensation. Mr. Burton also has extensive experience with retail store, trucking and product liability litigation.

In 1974, Mr. Burton received his Juris Doctor degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama. He received two Amjur Book Awards for evidence and civil procedure and was voted the outstanding Senior of Phi Alpha Delta, legal fraternity. He received his BA degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961, and attended the University of Miami School of Law from 1961 to 1962.

Prior to entering law school in 1971, Mr. Burton was employed by CNA as an adjuster in their Miami, Florida office, 1961-1967; he was then promoted to service office claims manager, West Palm Beach, Florida, 1967-1969. He was next employed as state claims vice president for Reserve Insurance Company for the State of Florida from 1969-1971. After law school, Mr. Burton was employed by Kemper Insurance Company in their Birmingham, Alabama claims office as claims counsel from 1974-1975. He was a partner in the insurance defense law firm of Rosenzweig & Burton from 1976-1987 and has been the senior member of James M. Burton and Associates since 1987.

Mr. Burton is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the United States District Court for the Central District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations; and has been a candidate for the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County.
